DAY ONE - NIGHT - CASTAWAYS GATHER AROUND THE FIRE
Although the crash had occurred hours before, the fuselage continued to smolder in crimson flame, blanketing the nearby area in thick smoke and illuminating the far end of the shoreline. The only light source in the otherwise velvety black darkness was a fairly large bonfire on the other side of the beach, about two hundred yards away from the fuselage. Fragments of the plane were scattered haphazardly across the shoreline, illuminated eerily by the blaze of the fire. The shouts, screams, and roars of the jet’s remaining turbine engine had died away completely, giving way to a ghostly silence. The rumble of the waves against the jagged rocks offshore created a kind of soothing, rhythmic melody and the foliage along the tree line rustled softly in the cool breeze.
Dorian St. Pierre sat with his back against a large fragment of what used to be the blade of the other turbine engine, the casing of which sat shattered not far away from the fuselage. A cigarette in his hand, Dorian looked up at the dark sky and thought how odd it was to be able to actually see the stars. He chuckled, reminding himself that on a clear night, back in London, you were lucky to make out the occasional constellation. But here, in the near complete darkness, hundreds of tiny lights and constellations littered the sky. It was ironic; something so beautiful amidst a scene of such abject despair.
Dorian took the unlit cigarette from his mouth and took a rusty looking silver lighter from his pocket. With a small click of the thumbwheel, a tiny flame erupted from inside the Zippo, momentarily silhouetting Dorian’s darkened face. St. Pierre brought the tip of the cigarette to the light and allowed it to catch flame. He sat there for a moment, looking down at the smoking cigarette; he hadn’t touched one in nearly four years. In fact, he had given up smoking after Juliann had been killed; she had always hated the way Dorian would sit on that silly park bench just outside their flat, puffing on the damn thing. But now, that seemed like a very long time ago. St. Pierre brought the small, white rod to his mouth, inhaled a long puff of smoke, and then gently exhaled. “Damn.” Dorian whispered aloud, his eyes watering from the unfamiliar sting of cigarette smoke.
He gazed into the darkness and could make out the silhouettes of what looked to be a dozen people gathered around the bonfire, their outlines visible against the glow of the smoldering flames. He couldn’t make out what anyone was saying; to be fair, he was at least a hundred yards away and they were only speaking in hoarse whispers. He thought about getting up and joining them, but then thought better of it and took another long puff of cigarette. He was probably better off alone, anyway.

Erika McClain sat in silence on a ridiculously uncomfortable log that had probably washed up on the shore on this island ages ago. She stared at the unfamiliar faces lit by firelight around her, unsure of what to make of her situation. Her mind was still reeling from the crash, even though the mayhem and madness that took over the hours immediately following it were now over. The sun had set, and soon, it would be the end of their first day on this beach, wherever the heck they were.
It was a strange feeling, finally being away from it all. Her life had completely revolved around the people she was with in Boston, and of course, her parents back home in Connecticut. Really, her life was guided mostly by them. She knew they only wanted the best for her, but their version of the best and her version of the best were two completely different bests. Seriously.
Raising an eyebrow, her thoughts wandered back to the people around her. She curiously searched the faces for the man she had seen earlier that day, but he was not to be found. Frowning, Erika looked out further down the beach, and saw a faint light of a lighter suddenly cause a glow across a face. She could have sworn it was the man. Not feeling particularly like talking about her future on this godforsaken island like the rest of those around her, she flipped her blonde curls that had been meticulously curled that morning, which seemed like eons ago, over her shoulder. To her dismay, they fell in a mess of scrunchy waves. Normally, she would be running for the nearest restroom to freshen up after a crazy day like this, but that for sure wasn’t gonna happen any time soon. So, she would just have to deal.
Luckily, her leg hadn’t been hurt as badly as some people had been, so as she got up, there was only a slight limp in her step. She supposed it was actually a good thing now that she was in training to be a nurse, since dealing with this was easier than it could have been. Erika made her way down the beach, following the faint light at the end of a cigarette.
”Haven’t you heard those things are bad for you?” Erika said ironically with a playful smirk on her face as she walked up to where the man was sitting. With all the things that had happened today, she couldn’t blame him for taking a break from reality. She really wished she had a drink right now. Not waiting for an invitation, she sat down right next to him in the sand against some large scrap of metal or another. They all looked the same to her now, scattered along the beach. ”Hope you don’t mind some company.” She added as she leaned her head against the metal supporting her.
"Yeah, I’ve heard that.” Erika was almost surprised to hear a British accent coming from the man. She hadn’t even thought any of the passengers could be from other countries, but, she supposed it made sense. She had been to England twice before, with her family, but that was a long time ago. That was before all the pressure started to fall on her shoulders to grow up, and when she could just be happy. She couldn’t help but notice his smile at her words disappear quickly as if it had never been there. She almost frowned as he did. He had a lovely smile, and those eyes were something else. Seriously. She had always had a thing for blue eyes... if it were any other place, any other time, she would have found him brutally hot.
“I couldn’t find any vodka or tequila, so these will have to do” He said, referring to the cigarettes he was smoking. ”You read my mind. If only.” Erika said, referring to the drinks. Tonight was a night she would rather get lost in something than face the reality of tomorrow. Tomorrow, she would actually have to interact with everyone at once, and figure out how to get away from this place as soon as possible. Not that she didn’t love an island vacation, but this wasn’t the first thing that came to mind with those kind of ideas. Plus, what was she going to wear? This ratty tee shirt that had blood stains and dirt smeared all over it? Eugh.
A grin spread across her face for only the second time that day, and that was saying something. Erika loved to laugh, and tried to take every opportunity to do so. ”A lone wolf? Really?” She said sarcastically with the same playful smile, raising an eyebrow at the man. She could tell already this guy took himself way too seriously. She wasn’t one to judge on first impressions...okay, that’s a total lie. This was Erika McClain after all. If her parents had taught her anything it was how to judge someone. ”Well, that’s alright, I’m used to bad company.” She continued, turning her gaze up to the sky
The moonlight on the island was pretty incredible. It lit up the night sky like a giant silver lamp, glistening on the waves hitting the island shore. And that wasn’t even a comparison to the stars. Back in Boston, every day was gray and cloudy, with the sky barely peeking through. Okay, maybe that was just the winter since she’d been there, but still. Actually seeing the constellations was a rare occurrence, but here, they each drew together in perfect lines, revealing their outlines perfectly. “Beautiful, isn’t it.” Erika remarked wistfully, keeping her sight on the stars above her. Well, if she was stuck here, at least she knew the nights wouldn’t be so bad ... words: 493 ... oufit: click ... tag: dorian! ... notes: hoping this is the proper posting template? & mind if i join? Dorian’s head continued to throb painfully, like hot needles drilling into his skull. In fact, the pain was making it difficult to really take in much of anything that the girl before him was saying. He suspected that he might have a concussion; after all, Dorian had sustained a deep gash just above his eye after impact. He remembering being thrown out of his chair and vaguely remember the incredible pain of his head colliding with something hard and metallic. The gash had bled for most of the afternoon, until he was able to staunch it properly with a large piece of cloth. In the morning, he would have the doctor --- or rather the guy who fancied himself a doctor – take a look at it. For now, he was determined not to fall asleep, just in case his suspicions about the concussion proved to be correct. He brought his free hand up to his temple to massage his forehead, hoping feebly that it would dull the pain. He brought his other hand, the hand holding the cigarette, up to his mouth and began to slowly inhale. Then a voice in his head, a sweet flirtatious voice that was so familiar to him, reminded him that cigarettes used to give him headaches, too. “You better put out that light, Dory.” The girl’s voice said, “You know it makes you sick…” He exhaled quickly and choked a few times. He blinked, turned to the girl next to him, and said quietly, “Well, maybe these damn things are bad for you.” And with that, he threw the cigarette into the sand, extinguishing the tiny flame at the tip of the long, white tube. He looked back at her and he could see a grin stretching across her face, that same flirtatious smirk he had noticed earlier. “A lone wolf? Really?” She giggled cutely, raising an eye at him. “Well, that’s alright, I’m used to bad company.” She continued, turning her gaze up to the sky. This girl, this total and complete stranger, was making fun of him! She was exactly like all the American girls he met while recruiting talent at Yale—pretty, popular, self-absorbed, judgmental, and tragically unaware that their existence was pathetically irrelevant. The nerve of this girl. If she knew who he was; if she knew the life he had lived for the past six years… Damn, had it really been that long? Dorian smiled weakly for a moment, but his grin evaporated just as suddenly as it had appeared. “Beautiful, isn’t it.” Her voice brought him back to that stupid sandy, depressing beach. The girl was looking up at the stars, smiling weekly. The sky truly was magnificent. The moon glowed softly on the far left side, illuminating the waves rolling over rocks offshore. He could count all the constellations he had learned as child—Orion, Cassiopeia, Polaris. Dorian consciously repressed a grin; he hadn't even thought about grandfather for years. It felt like another life time ago, lying in the fields outside his grandparent’s Manchester home, looking up at the stars and learning their stories. “I guess…” Dorian said, dismissively, but suspected that she saw through his attempt to avoid conversation. After all, he had been intently staring up at the stars, too. “Listen, I don’t mean to sound rude but…” Dorian stopped talking, mid-sentence. The trees behind him began to rustle loudly and eerily. He had turned his head to the tree line just as he heard it, a terrifying, earsplitting roar. Now standing and facing the tree line, Dorian could see birds taking flight, abandoning their perches and flying up into the sky. He turned to look at the blond girl, as if to see if somebody else had heard the sound, too, but even as he began to turn his head another scream filled his ears. It was a high pitched, blood curdling shriek of terror. “Oh my god.” ... words: 651 ... oufit: click ... tag: erika or somebody elsee ... notes: haha the beginning of the love hate relationship! and strap in ... it's gonna be interesting.

Erika raised her eyebrow at the man again as he threw down the cigarette in the sand. He seemed to be lost in some sort of deep thought, that would explain the “bad company” remark, anyway. She supposed it probably had to do with the crash. Everyone seemed to have their own personal reactions to what had happened, and they were all reacting very differently. Some craved a giant loving family at this moment, and those who did were by the fire. But, family had bad associations for Erika. That was not exactly what she needed right now. She wanted to combat someone else's problems before facing her own, so she separated herself from the group. There was something about this man that made her just want to learn more. She could tell her presence was unwanted, but maybe, deep down somewhere, it was welcomed. She thought she might just be able to see it in his smile. Besides, she had always been told she was good with people, especially cheering them up. It was one of the characteristics her father had pointed out to her a thousand times over, telling her nursing was really the career for her.
“I guess…” The man remarked passively, as if wanting to end the conversation then and there, but Erika wasn’t giving up so easily. “I guess? Really? Oh, come on, you’ve gotta admit it’s gorgeous.” She turned to him, staring him straight in the eye as she spoke. There was no way he wasn’t as affected by the view as she was, she could see it in his smile.
“Listen, I don’t mean to sound rude but…” He started, more than a bit of annoyance showing in his voice. Erika was already prepping a retort, but then, there was a noise in the jungle. A large, earsplitting roar to be exact. A large roar that probably came with a large animal attached. The man whipped his head around towards the noise before staring back at her in alarm, seeming like he was searching for some sort of recognition of the noise. She figured her look of terror would suffice for that.
Following whatever the heck that noise was came the loudest, most desperate scream Erika had ever heard. She resisted the urge to cling to the arm of the unknown man next to her as she turned back towards him. ”What the heck was that?” She questioned in fear of what his answer might be. He had obviously seen something that she had missed while she was stargazing.

Slowly, a dark figure stepped away from the light of the campfire. The others were too wrapped up in their grief and conversations to notice Katherine slip away from the group. She didn't enjoy the company of the other survivors and decided it was time for her to go off on her own. Jay had taken care of her arm with the little medical supplies that they had and Katherine was able to recover her pocketknife from the wreckage. She walked into the jungle, the moonlight was the only thing that illuminated her pathway. The sky was beautiful, the stars were able to shine at their brightest with no light pollution to make them go dark. If Katherine had learned anything in her lifetime it would to not take things for granted because you never knew when your life would end. Assassinating people wasn't an easy task for her, although in time she had gotten used to it; she had grown numb to any emotions that would stop her from her occupation.
Before long Katherine had wandered well into the jungle, bamboo grew thick, engulfing anything in its path. It had become harder for her to make her way through it and she had to bring herself to a halt. With her pocketknife, Katherine sawed one of the bamboo shoots. She then started to strip the bamboo of its armored outer layer. Soon enough, Katherine had removed the outer shell and reached the edible inner part. But, before she could eat it she'd have to cook it over a fire. With a huff Katherine started to slowly work her way back to the campfire and every so often she would cut another shoot. By the time she could see the light of the fire she had collected six shoots in all.
Katherine looked up at the moon one last time and as she did, a loud rustle could be heard next to her. The next thing she knew, something had tackled her to the ground, the moon was behind it and Katherine wasn't able to make sense of the shadowy figure that pinned her down. She let out a shriek of terror, she dug into her pocket and pulled out her knife. She flicked it open and jabbed it into the creature's side, it connected and sliced through. As she withdrew her knife from the creature's side it turned and fled. Katherine panted in shock, and she lay there, with blood splattered on her clothes.

If one thing was certain, it was that someone was definitely in serious danger. Dorian turned to look at the blond girl standing beside him, whose delicate skin had gone pale with fear. “What the heck was that?” She asked, hesitantly. Shaking his head, Dorian turned back towards the tree line, peering ahead into the velvety darkness of the bamboo forest. The blood curdling scream still hung on the air, like a ghostly echo. As the shriek faded into an eerie silence, Dorian turned back towards the girl and whispered, “I haven’t a bloody idea”. Then, another terrifying roar ripped through the air, causing both of them to turn sharply and look down the shoreline, towards the far side of the beach. A moment later, another shriek of absolute terror erupted from within the bamboo forest, causing both of them to jump. “Bloody hell” Dorian gasped.
Before the girl could say anything, Dorian took off running towards the jungle, peering into the darkness by the light of the moon. He got as far as the first few bamboo trees, and then stopped, peering into the shadows. It was almost impossible to see much of anything. He took the rusty silver Zippo from his pocket, ignited the tip, and used the flame to help illuminate the forest in front of him. It wasn’t much help, but it was something. Dorian grimaced and put his hand to his head, which was still throbbing painfully. “What I wouldn’t do for a flashlight and a bottle of aspirin…” he thought to himself.
He spun around, checking to see if his blond counterpart was following him. It seemed like she had taken a few steps forward, although it was difficult to tell in the darkness. “Listen, don’t follow me. Go down to the campfire and tell that chap who thinks he’s a doctor what’s happening. Alright?” Nodding his head, Dorian turned his back to the girl and continued towards the tree line, trying desperately to see into the forest by the flame being produced by his cigarette lighter. He plunged his hand into the back pocket of his jeans, pulling out a long, black hunting knife. With a flick of his wrist the blade opened up, shimmering in the light of the Zippo. His knife in one hand and the lighter in the other, Dorian took off running into the forest. As he faded into the velvety darkness, he called out, “By the way, the name’s Dorian.”

Erika’s eyes grew wider as he answered her. “I haven’t a bloody idea.” Part of her was actually hoping he might know what was making that noise, and reassure her that it was nothing. Hah. Who was she kidding? His previous looks of terror should have already answered that question.
Within seconds, the man took off in a sprint in the direction of the jungle. Without another moments delay, Erika hopped up and began to chase after him, and the noise coming from the trees. Her run was more like a hobbly fast walk, since her leg was still sore from the large gash she had sustained in the crash, but she would make do. The adrenaline rush put the thought almost completely out of her head, though an onlooker might have laughed at how pathetic she looked. She followed the man right to the start of the forest of bamboo trees before he stopped to get out a lighter. Erika had almost forgotten about the darkness surrounding the island until that very moment; the day had so seamlessly blended into the night. He spun around to face her, and spoke. “Listen, don’t follow me. Go down to the campfire and tell that chap who thinks he’s a doctor what’s happening. Alright?” Erika was about to make some statement about how she could handle herself, and was definitely going to follow him, but then realized that actually wasn’t a half bad idea. If she would run back to camp, she could get backup, because let’s be honest, there were probably a whole lot of people better suited for a rescuing job than she was, especially with her limping leg. ”Fine.” She said simply, with a twinge of annoyance in her voice. ”But be careful, alright? You might be all tough now, but you don’t know what might be in there.” Erika told him as she watched him flick out a long knife from his pocket. She really meant what she said. There was no telling what might have made that noise, and besides, she was beginning to like this slightly arrogant guy, and having him killed made one less person on the island to help the others to survive here. She watched him sprint into the forest of bamboo, and heard him call out, “By the way, the name’s Dorian.” Before she took off back towards the beach, she yelled after him with a grin, and the slightest twinge of irony, ”Erika, it’s been a pleasure.”
Erika sprinted, well, as well as she could sprint, towards the bonfire she had sat beside just a while ago. Panting slightly as she made her way towards the group, she spoke to everyone huddled by the burning flames. ”Hey, who’s the doctor here?” She questioned everyone there, ”We’ve got a serious situation. I need your help.” Erika spoke rather frantically, unsure of how much time she'd have before whatever that thing was in the jungle swallowed Dorian whole.

Silence. It was strange to think that just that afternoon the beach had been ablaze with both fire and screams from the injured survivors that now huddled together. Although once strangers they were now like family wanting the need of others close by, needing to feel safe for the first time since the accident. Jay had suggested that they lit a fire for warmth due to the chilled air that rapidly began to blow across from the now dull restless sea which strangely enough was carried out. Ever since he had pulled a few survivors away from the plane they seemed to look up to him like some kind of leader, he was far from it. He hadn't even passed his last tests due to his father, well that didn't matter. Not anymore. Not on an Island where history could be rewritten. For all he knew he could be sat opposite a serial killer, not a thought he wanted to dwell on.
The fire crackled gently breaking out the silence until that first fearsome roar which was quickly followed by a scream. Jay found himself on his feet yet again knowing that he was one of the only people so far to have any medical knowledge thus whoever screamed might need his help. "Pass me that bag" he called out to a small female beside him who threw him a small brown shoulder bag which contained a bottle of water, a couple of pens, a notepad, a few bandages and a screwdriver. So it wasn't the best medical kit but it was all he had taken with him to help train on the flight not that the plane had gotten far enough for him to do that. Sighing he dug into his jeans pocket pulling out a large bottle of pain killers. He quickly popped one into his mouth and swallowed whole not worrying about water.
Just then a female began to make her way towards them, she appeared to be injured so Jay instantly walked forward but couldn't help but remember the scream from earlier. Taking everything into account he knew that eventually the female before him would be fine but the owner of the scream might not be. "We can look at your leg when we get back, it's not broken though" he quickly informed her smiling slightly before revealing who he was "I'm Jay and I'm not a Doctor just a med student" He stopped himself adding the best we've got as he really wasn't the type to blow his own trumpet but in a strange way felt good that he was needed, it was allowing him to place more depressing thoughts further away from his mind.
He reached out to try and take the girls hand, she didn't look like she wanted to be alone and if truth be told running into a near pitch black forest full of screaming wasn't exactly an ideal situation for him either. "Show me" he asked in much more of a gentle voice as he felt them moving forward. Trees blurred their way past the duo as they hurried further into the abyss although the female was moving slightly slowly that he was. Jay's heart thudded against his chest until he saw a small light ahead of him, it wasn't a torch but looked almost like a lighter being held by a dark haired male who he didn't recognize. The bag collided with his leg as he stopped moving swinging gently to a rest. "Do you know where it came from?" he asked breathing deeply trying to make sense of what was hidden in the darkness. Once or twice he was sure he saw someone running but it turned out to be just an oddly shaped tree or a bird flying upwards away from the males. words: 640 outfit; click tag: Katherine, Dorian, Erika notes: Here comes the Doctor

Eyes still wide and frozen in place was Katherine. She lay on the ground of the small clearing staring up at the stars, pocketknife still in hand. Whatever that creature was scared the hell out of her. It had an eerie essence, yet something seemed familiar about it in a creepy kind of way, she just couldn't place her finger on it. Just in case the monster was still lurking, Katherine moved as slowly as she could and sat upright. Again, very slowly, she got to her feet, she glanced around herself and let out a sigh. That was a mistake because something rammed into her from behind and she was thrown off her feet. She got out another blood-curdling scream before Katherine landed on her back, the wind blown out of her. She lay there, coughing violently, then finally air filled her lungs again. Something was off with this air though, it tasted metallic on her tongue and smelled of blood.
From the corner of her eye she saw shapes, darker than the shadows that moved around her. This time Katherine shot up, sheathed her pocketknife, put it in her pocket, and took off at a sprint. She ran for dear life, she ignored the pain on her side, ignored the fact that she had no idea where she was going, and didn't even think about the bamboo shoots she had left behind. Katherine couldn't hear through the thumping of heart but she could feel the hot breath that crept down her neck and made her shudder. The creature she had encountered had given chase and was hard on her heels. Again, Katherine screamed, with the hope that one of the other survivors might hear her and come to her aid. Not ever in her life had she felt so terrified and she had been scared plenty of times before. There was something different about the monster that pursued her, it brought emotions to her, emotions that she usually didn't feel, it brought fear.
Katherine's survival instincts started to kick in though and instead of running in a straight line she sprinted in intricate patterns. Soon enough, she didn't feel any presence behind her. A weight lifted itself off her shoulders and Katherine slowed to catch her breath. She leaned against a thick bamboo shoot and breathed in and out, her heart beat fast. The adrenaline started to give way and Katherine realized that she was in excruciating pain, much like the torture she had received once before but somehow worse. She groaned in pain and slid down the shoot into a sitting position. Katherine gripped her side and looked down at her navy blue shirt. From the little light provided by the moon she could see that it had turned to a red burgundy. "Shit." She said under her breath.
However much Katherine wanted to rest, she knew she couldn't otherwise she might not live to see day. Katherine braced herself against the bamboo and pushed herself to her feet. She lurched forward and started to run in the direction she thought the camp was. Every step took her breath away but Katherine kept going. Soon she saw a small light and she began to pick up speed. She was in such a haze that she didn't even notice that she had come upon three people. Katherine simply collided into the man with the lighter.

Moving as swiftly and carefully as possible, Dorian fought his way through the bamboo forest, finding his footing by the flame produced by the rusty silver lighter in his hand. He pressed on, making his way deeper and deeper into the forest, devoid of any sort of visible path. Dorian was trying to make as little noise as possible, although that would have been considerably less difficult if he could have seen where we he going. The forest was eerily silent, as if the trees themselves were waiting for the next deafening roar or earsplitting scream of terror. The only noise Dorian could hear was the sound of twigs breaking below his footsteps and the rustle of leaves in the breeze. Or perhaps the rustle of leaves was being caused by something else.
He froze, peering into the darkness, clutching his hunting knife even more tightly. The rustle of leaves and brush continued, and then grew even louder. Dorian bent his knees slightly and squared his shoulders, ready to plunge his knife into anything that came at him. The rustling grew louder and louder, as if something was heading straight for him. Then he heard it – a long, deafening brutal roar. Something was definitely moving toward him, and fast. “Come and get me.” Dorian whispered, readying his knife to strike. The rustling grew louder and louder, and began echoing all around him. A soft hiss began to resonate all around him, as if the sound itself was bouncing off of the trees. But, as Dorian stood there listening even more intently, he realized that it wasn’t a hiss at all; it was whispering.
Dorian spun around, brandishing his knife. It was as if the whispers were all around him, closing in on him. For the first time that evening, fear began to swell up inside of him. There was something eerie, something unnatural about these whispers. The whispers grew louder and louder and, strangely, the rustling grew softer. In fact, the louder the whispers grew, the softer the rustling became. Dorian had absolutely no idea what was happening, or what was causing these whispers, but he knew that he didn’t want to be found by whatever, or whoever, was making them. Realizing that the flame from his lighter could be giving away his position, he flicked the top of the Zippo shut, extinguishing the flame.
Dorian stood there, now in complete darkness, waiting for something to happen. Suddenly, he heard rustling growing louder and louder behind him. He spun around, readying his knife to strike. He flicked on his lighter, readying to stab at whatever came at him. By the light of his flame, Dorian could make out two figures approaching him, one moving faster than the other. St. Pierre pulled his arm back, a moment away from plunging his knife into the torso of his attacker, but stopped at just the last moment. It was the doctor, or at least it was the chap who fancied himself a doctor.
Dorian breathed a sign of relief and lowered his knife. He turned back around, peering into the darkness before him, trying to find the source of the whispering. But the sound had vanished. "Do you know where it came from?" The boy asked, a little too loudly. Dorian spun around, raising his knife. “Be quiet! They’ll hear you!” Dorian spat, at a near whisper.
But something had heard them. Someone, or something, was running straight at them, breaking twigs and rustling through the brush. Dorian spun around and someone crashed straight into him, causing him to loose his balance. He stumbled backwards, causing his arms to flail widely, attempting to grab onto a tree to stop himself from falling. In the chaos, Dorian accidentally let go of the lighter and he watched the flame soar through the air and then disappear in the brush. “Son of a bitch!” Dorian spat, getting to his feet.

Erika could feel herself blush as soon as the young man who was the doctor she was looking for stood and made his way towards her. She swore it was love at first sight. "We can look at your leg when we get back, it's not broken though.” He said to her, though she barely heard the words. He was so cute, and he was a doctor. It was perfect! It was fate! It was meant to be! Maybe he was the reason she was put on this awful little spit of land. That’s what the universe intended of course, for her to fall in love! Alright, this was totally not the right time to be thinking these sort of thoughts, but when was it ever the right time right? Wasn’t there some phrase everyone said about these sort of situations, Carpe diem, or something? Well, whatever, he was hot, and Erika wasn’t one to pass this sort of opportunity by. “Okay.” She said with a flirty smile as she looked into his perfect blue eyes, and couldn’t help but notice hers were almost the same shade. Except maybe a bit brighter.
"I'm Jay and I'm not a Doctor, just a med student." He spoke again as they walked quickly towards the direction of the scream. “Erika, nice to meet you.” She replied, smiling a typical friendly smile at him. Okay, so he wasn’t a full fledged doctor. She wasn’t fully a nurse, either! Now was no time to nit pick, after all, she was on a deserted island. “Well, Mr. Med Student, doctor or not, we could use all the help we can get.” Erika continued. Although she joked, she was also perfectly serious. She had no idea what they were up against here, and they needed any hands they could. “I’m a nursing student, by the way, so if you ever need any help, you know where to find me.” She laughed lightly, referring to the tiny island they were now trapped on. She figured unless she somehow got lost in this small place, though it probably wouldn't be too hard for her to do, he would be able to find her easily. Probably sensing that talking too much was one of Erika’s nervous habits, Jay grabbed her hand tenderly as he spoke softly, "Show me.” With that, Erika’s heart jumped about six beats faster. Yes, he was absolutely perfect, she could already tell.
Pointing to her previous position on the beach, Erika told him exactly what had happened that already eventful evening. “We were sitting on the beach down there, when we heard this horrible shrieking scream and some super weird noises coming from the jungle. Then, Dorian,” She stopped for a minute, realizing he probably had no idea who exactly Dorian was. “I don’t know if you know him. Tall, dark, and handsome, mysterious looking guy with a serious need of an attitude adjustment? Yeah, well, he went through there,” She finished, pointing into the jungle where Dorian had sprinted off to just minutes ago. As they walked deeper into the forest, Erika was sure to keep as close to Jay as possible, and keep ahold of his hand. "Do you know where it came from?" He asked her as they made their way through the bamboo. Suddenly, a now familiar voice came spitting out of the darkness. “Be quiet! They’ll hear you!” Yep, that was Dorian alright.
In a matter of moments, something, or someone, charged at their little group, causing Dorian to fly backwards with the impact. “Son of a bitch!” He yelled. Erika couldn’t help but shriek at the sight, grabbing a tighter hold onto Jay’s hand and stepping towards Dorian, still unsure of what the thing was that just hit him, but, she could have sworn it looked like....a woman?

"A nurse" He repeated, a small grin sketched across his features, accompanied by a laugh "We nearly have a whole ER" The newly called Doctor couldn't help but notice how beautiful she looked on the beach against the moonlight. Upon her mentioning the scream, he knew that it was the same one that the group had heard earlier, so he forced the thoughts about the blonde before him out of his mind, regretfully he might add. He just hoped that they didn't expect too much of him, after all he wasn't a fully fledged Doctor. Even if he had of been, the chances of finding all the medical supplies that they would need was near impossible.
Erika, whose hand he still clutched stood beside him as Dorian spoke after the fact that he had raised a knife at him. "I don't want to know where you got that but next time how about you call out who is it? Instead of thrusting a knife at someone? They might like you better for it" he told him with a slight roll of the eyes. Jay lowered himself to the ground, one of his knees sinking slightly in the ground. Using as much of the lighter's dancing flame to illuminate the ground as he could the male quickly discovered that there were no footprints or any kind of marks that would say that someone had been through the section the trio now stood. "So where is she?" he muttered under his breath hopelessly scanning the constricted trees taking off the bag that was pressing softly against his neck, resting it on a small section of leaves.
"They will hear you" spat the male who he automatically assumed was Dorian by Erika's description of him. Tall, dark and not his type, Jay was utterly straight. "Who will hear us?" he asked raising his left brow before getting to his feet "The trees? I hate to tell you but they don't have ears. They can't scream either so instead of wasting our time here shouldn't we look for the person who did?" As if someone was giving them a break a figure came bursting out of the trees causing Jay to jump back slightly bridging the gap between Erika who he brushed up against which upon noticing he lightly blushed and let go. "Never mind, found her"
He held out his hands to try and slow her down but she must of been terrified out of her mind, it looked like she didn't see any of them. She soon found that out however by crashing into Dorian who's lighter flew off into the distance restricting their light source to Zer. It wouldn't be wise to even try and see if the female was hurt or he could accidently break a fragile bone or something much worse. "I hope no one's afraid of the dark" he exclaimed however before anyone could answer he quickly changed his tone to that of a more gentle one "Hey can you hear me? Are you hurt? Whats your name? I'm sort of a Doctor, I can help. You were running from something what was it? Did it attack you?"
Jay raised his head once again, no he didn't like violence but if she had been attacked by something that had been chasing her, what's to say that it wasn't close by to them now? Watching. Waiting. Listening. "Ok Dorian your knife, aim it towards the trees she came from but don't use it unless you know exactly what it is. We don't want you stabbing someone else. Erika do you think you can grab the water out of my bag?" he asked her pointing towards it until noticing that it wasn't like they could actually see "It should be on your left somewhere in front of you, she looks like she needs a drink"
Were they safe? He didn't have a clue but together they were a lot safer then they would be on their own. Jay was just slightly annoyed that out of the whole survivors stranded onto the island only Dorian, Erika and himself had gone to help. Then again running towards a screaming forest didn't seem like one of his best ideas nor was it one of his finest moments, not knowing what could be hiding within it played tricks with his mind. He saw strange almost demonic forms against the trees slithering, crawling their way forwards getting ready to strike. Upon looking again they were oddly shaped branches or leaves, sometimes there was nothing there at all but still the hairs on the back of his neck were up. words: 767 outfit; click tag: Katherine, Dorian, Erika notes: Aha love this thread xD[/blockquote]

"Son of a bitch!" Oh, Katherine was able to recognize that voice like it was her own reflection. She could place it even if she was on the brink of death because that voice belonged to Dorian St. Pierre. It was dark, however Katherine was unable to tell if her eyes were open or closed. She didn't even care, she was exhausted, from running, from screaming, from being terrified. It had drained the living daylights out of her and she was ready to crash.
She could heard a scream and some talking, although she couldn't place who they belonged to, she didn't care. Her chest rose and fell with exasperated breathing, every muscle in her body ached and her head was spinning. Katherine was unable to focus on the voice that spoke, she was too far gone, and it just sounded like background noise to her. A weird noise reached her however she was unable to realize that it was her own groaning. She drifted in and out of consciousness, she tried to fight against it but it ended up swallowing her and she floated in the abyss.
A man stood in front of her. Other people surrounded her, but she focused on the man in front of her. He was the most important one of them all. Katherine spat in his face, but he simply wiped it away and snapped his fingers. Strong hands restrained her and a cloth was placed over her mouth. Then, water. Water was dumped over her mouth. She was forced to either try to swallow it or drown in it. Katherine coughed and spluttered and drowned in it. But, it was taken away just as quickly as it had been given. Katherine coughed up water, her voice sore. "Now, you will tell me who sent you." The man grabbed her chin and made her look at him. She glared at him and looked him directly in the eyes. He wasn't going to win this battle. No, she would be victorious. "Never. You can put me through hell and bring me back but I will never give up."
Katherine's eyes fluttered open and the first thing she saw was the stars. They shone in the sky, nestled in darkness. Darkness. It all came rushing back, the creature, the shadows, the whispering, the running, Dorian. Katherine gasped and bolted upright, only to have to go back down because of the sharp pain in her side. She groaned and closed her eyes once again. She was unable to tell if it was sweat or blood that stuck to her skin. "Darkness. Everywhere. A creature. Attacked me. I ran but it got me." She whispered as loud as she could. "There's a wound on my side." Then, she grabbed Dorian's hand, remembering that she had to keep acting even if she was hurt. It was the only thing on her mind. "Don't go in there! There's a treacherous monster. Don't leave me!" She sobbed, crying fake tears. "Don't leave me in the dark! It's so scary! Where's the light?!"

Had he not been turned around, seething at the stupidity of the blond girl and the chap who fancied himself a doctor, Dorian would have been able to brace himself against the coming attack. But, unfortunately, he had not and his lighter soared gracefully out of his hand, disappearing into the darkness. Dorian stumbled backwards and would have been knocked off of his feet, had he not grabbed onto a nearby bamboo shoot. Picking himself up, Dorian starred down at the person who had collided with him—it appeared to be a young woman with straight brown hair. She was clearly injured and it was obvious that she had been running for her life. The doctor, if you could even call him that, was already on his knees, trying to communicate with the girl. “Hey can you hear me? Are you hurt?” The boy asked, apparently unaware of how loud he was being. “What’s your name? I'm sort of a Doctor, I can help.” But at that moment in time, her injuries were immaterial. Didn’t this idiot understand the seriousness of their situation? Didn’t he realize that whatever had attacked her was still out there?
“Brilliant. Just bloody fantastic.” Dorian seethed, in little more than a whisper. Without the aid of the lighter, the jungle was, once again, pitch black and it was impossible to see much of anything in the relentless darkness. “You were running from something—what was it? Did it attack you?" The boy asked again, stupidly. Then, suddenly, something rustled out in the jungle, causing all four of them to peer out into the darkness. Something was definitely still out there and, as Dorian feared, it was watching them.
After a few seconds of waiting in silence, the boy spoke again. "Ok Dorian your knife, aim it towards the trees she came from but don't use it unless you know exactly what it is. We don't want you stabbing someone else.” Enough was enough! Spinning around, Dorian raised his knife, not in the direction from which the young girl had come running, but towards the boy who could not, for the life of him, keep his mouth shut. “If you say another word,” Dorian hissed in grave seriousness, “I’ll slit your bloody throat!”
Fixing his furious gaze intently on the boy, Dorian whispered, “I don’t know who the hell you think you are but I don’t take orders from you! I don’t know if you’re ignorant or just daft, but there are things in this jungle—and as you so brilliantly pointed out, something attacked this girl!” By now his face was crimson red with anger and sweat was pouring down his hand, making the knife glisten—the knife that was still pointed at the boy. “We need to get out of this jungle as quickly and quietly as possible. So, if you don’t mind, shut it!” Just as Dorian had finished scolding the boy, the injured girl’s eyes shot open. She attempted to get up but fell back instantly, apparently in agonizing pain. "Darkness. Everywhere. A creature. Attacked me. I ran but it got me." She whispered, a little too loudly. "There's a wound on my side." Then, she grabbed Dorian's hand, pulling him towards her a little bit. "Don't go in there! There's a treacherous monster. Don't leave me!" Dorian had opened his mouth to assure her that he certainly wouldn’t leave her—after all he had just run into the pitch black jungle to rescue her—when another loud, long, roar ripped through the air. This roar was considerably louder than before, which could mean only one thing—it was coming!

Logically fear should of been the first thing that Jay should of felt upon seeing the knife yet instead of feeling his heart quicken he felt his skin heat up. No he wasn't angry, for Jay anger wasn't one of his personality traits as it took a lot for his temper to boil over. Calm and collective it was what he had been told over and over again at med school, by his parents and the hundreds of books or articles that he had to read night after night. After all stressful situations was a common ground for Doctors so considering his future carer choice he needed to be good at dealing with them. It was what he needed to be at that moment.
"Don't you aim your knife at me, we don't need this right now. I am just here to help so unless you have some sort of medical care under your belt I suggest you let me do what I came here to do. You called me here, remember?" exclaimed Jay in a light audio so that he couldn't moan at the male for being too loud yet again. He maintained eye contact with Dorian for as long as he could before the females outburst drew his attention to her. Suddenly his brain clicked together as he remembered the female from earlier that day, she had sat near him after the crash. What was her name? Searching the various memories his virtual light bulb lit up with a small smile. "Katherine it's okay, your safe with us. It's me Jay, remember?"
He looked up towards the over male feeling the need to explain his actions so as soon as Erika had passed him the water Jay in turn gave it to Katherine with a smile before he stood up. "Seeing as you are the only one with a weapon I thought that it was a good idea to have you alert while Erika and I help her. Unless you think bandages will kill it?" he asked holding up a piece of the small white cloth clutched within his palm "If it followed her then it's got her scent, she said it herself. Whatever this thing is it chased her, it doesn't need to listen to our voices. Besides if it is near by then it could of been attracted by your lighter, it was the only light within this forest"
Taking a deep breath the medical student sighed, Jay didn't come to the forest to cause an argument or get involved in anything remotely dangerous yet here he was. Dorian needed to understand that he was only just trying to help. Relaxing his body he began to speak as quietly as his vocal cords would allow him slowly pronouncing each word to show that he meant everyone. "Look I don't know you and you don't know me" he explained in a soft tone his hands resting by his sides "But we are stuck for god knows how long on the Island let's just try to get along yeah? I didn't mean to cause trouble or issue any kind of order. So sorry Dorian. Okay?"
Jay waited for his response wondering whether he was going to get stabbed for his trouble, which was the last thing any of the foursome needed with some crazy assed monster running around. "A creature?" he asked frowning but fair enough she looked scared out of her mind so her fear probably altered her thinking. Still there was something out there and he didn't want to come face to face with it "Look it's probably just some kind of lemur or something? They live on tropical islands like this, the dark just played a trick on you" He allowed a small grin to crept onto his face trying to reassure the group although he didn't believe anything that he had just said.
When another roar sounded even closer then last time he couldn't help but twist his whole body in front of the group to stand next to the other male shielding Erika while Katherine was being shielded by Dorian. "Of course lemurs can't roar and they aren't gigantic" he muttered slowly staring into the darkness like the creature would slowly reveal themselves giving the group a chance to run away "So it's not a lemur"
