Hello Prospective THE ISLAND Player,
We’re thrilled that you are thinking about joining our role-play. THE ISLAND is an high intermediate-advanced role play which centers on a group of college students who are marooned on a mysterious, uncharted Island. That much is obvious. Let me take a few moments to explain a few things that aren’t too apparent.
First off, and you might have figured this out, ABC’s Drama LOST was the inspiration behind this role-play. However, like most LOST Fans, the creators of this site became disenfranchised after the focus of the drama got away from the ‘Castaway Concept’. Here on THE ISLAND, we strive to correct that fatal mistake.
Second, this role-play is more about characterization that the actual location. Each of our characters is somehow broken. Jay Sullivan, The Doctor, recently loss his father to a sudden neurological disease which has caused him to question his plans for the future. James Grey, The Group’s Badboy, accidentally paralyzed his kid-sister in a drunken car accident, causing him to attempt suicide. Samantha Rousseau, the Hottie With A Past, recently, and illegally, pulled the plug on her terminal grandfather, mercifully killing him and alienating herself from the rest of her family. The list goes on and on. All Applicants such understand this when applying.
Thirdly, the role-playing of this site is structured like a television show. Each thread is an episode, which everybody posts in. Our members are told a little briefing on the important aspects of the episode prior to the thread beginning. Each episode has a general story arch, and each episode fits into the greater story of the series. It’s a unique way of role-playing, yet we believe its effective on this type of site.
Lastly, the application is more of an audition than an application. The purpose of this application is to convince us to give you one of our canon characters. Other sites have you fill out long winded application which include your character’s personality, their history, and a hole bunch of other useless facts. Here on THE ISLAND we want to know what you think. Where would you like to take this character? Why does this character appeal to you? What can you bring to the table? These all should be answered in your application.
